A "KARATE FOR CHARITY" EVENT

Well done to all School of Japanese Karate students who had the courage to take part in the 2006 Championships and congratulations to the Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists.

Our thanks go to the officials who worked so hard before and during the Competition and gave up their time for this well deserving cause and thanks also to Chris Chessum for the excellent photographs.

The event was enthusiastically supported by the parents and friends of the competitors and a special mention goes to Sal Dinatale for the kind donation of a superb dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine at the top west end Italian Restaurant "Concordia" in Bayswater, which was raffled on the day allowing us to add to the donation for cancer research.

Established in 1978, the SJK Karate Club also teaches the techniques necessary for competing in traditional competition, along with the rules of scoring. One of our aims is to develop the skills necessary to compete in Kata and Kumite events at all levels proudly representing SJK. A world of opportunity for improved mental and physical health can be gained from a quality karate club such as ours. Karate training opens the doorway to building greater self-confidence. The benefit of self-defence is obvious, but it is only a small part of what can be gained. Karate builds stamina, strength, flexibility, and coordination. People can also learn and develop calmness, greater alertness, patience, and self-discipline.
