Contents of the DVD

This is the first DVD in the SJK “Karate Made Easy” series. It contains video of Basics, Kumite, Kata and Bunkai

applications that students should know for their development in the art of Shotokan Karate,

as taught by SJK, and will also prepare them for their first Grading.

 

All techniques shown in this DVD video are performed at normal speed and then at a slow speed

with running commentary, as well as being shown from various view points. 

There are many bunkai applications within the kata – only a few are shown.  

 Care should be taken when attempting to practice these moves.

 Students should spend at least 10 minutes warming and stretching the muscles before beginning their training session.

 

Basics:

Oi Zuki Jodan – Straight stepping punch to the head level

Age Uke – Upward rising block

Oi Zuki Chudan – Straight stepping punch to the middle level

Soto Ude Uke – Outside forearm block

Uchi Ude Uke – Inside forearm block

MaeGeri Chudan – Front snap kick middle level

Mae Geri Jodan – Front snap kick head level

 

Kumite – Sanbon Kumite – Three Step Sparring

Stepping in to punch Jodan, stepping back blocking Age Uke

Stepping in to punch Chudan, stepping back blocking Soto Ude Uke

 

Kata:

Taikyoku Shodan – or Kihon Kata

A pattern of set moves against imaginary opponents.

 

Bunkai – Application of  techniques from within the kata

3 standard techniques are performed as well as 2 alternative applications
