Instructors at the School of Japanese Karate understand the added responsibilities of teaching karate to children and also the basic principles of growth and development through childhood to adolescence.
Exercises will be appropriate to age and build. Instructors will not simply treat children as small adults, with small adult bodies.
In general, the younger the child, the
shorter the attention span. One hour is generally considered sufficient training
time for the average 12 year old or below.
Children should not do certain conditioning exercises, especially those which
are heavy load bearing,
they should not do any heavy or impact work but should concentrate on the
development of speed, mobility, skill and general fitness.

Our style of Karate-do is a way of co-ordinating the mind-body-spirit within oneself using fighting techniques, the origins of which being callisthenic exercises used by monks to endure the rigours of meditation.
Today with the help of Karate-do we can keep a healthy body, a peaceful confident mind and a fighting spirit to endure the rigours of today's fast moving complicated life. Self defence comes initially with the techniques and eventually with an inner knowledge before an action is imminent, therefore avoiding conflict.
